Diagnosis, medication review and second opinions from consultant psychiatrists. We start with listening, and prescribe only what genuinely helps.
Psychiatry at The Mind Faculty means consultation with a consultant psychiatrist, a medical doctor specialising in mental health, for diagnosis, medication and ongoing care. Our psychiatrists in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, assess and treat adults, older adults, teenagers and children, and offer ADHD, autism and psychological assessments, medication reviews and second opinions. No referral is needed.
A psychiatrist is the right person to see when you want a clear diagnosis, when medication might be part of the answer, or when things have become serious enough that you need a medical view. Our consultant psychiatrists include senior clinicians with decades of experience and specialists in addiction, child and adolescent psychiatry, neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism, and forensic and medico-legal assessment.
We start with listening, and prescribe only what genuinely helps. If therapy is likely to be more useful than medication, we'll say so and connect you with a psychologist or counsellor within the faculty. If you're already on medication and want it reviewed, or you'd like a second opinion on a diagnosis, you're welcome to book for that alone.

What to expect
How psychiatry & assessment works here
A first consultation
Usually 45 to 60 minutes. Your psychiatrist asks what's brought you in, your history and what you're hoping for, and explains what they think is going on in plain language. You leave with a clear picture and a plan, which may or may not involve medication.
Assessment, where needed
For ADHD, autism or other assessments, this may involve more than one session and, for children, input from parents and school. A clinical psychologist may carry out formal psychological testing alongside.
Treatment and review
If medication is prescribed, you'll be told what it does, how long it takes to work and what to look out for, with follow-ups to adjust it. Therapy can run alongside with another member of the faculty.
Ongoing care
Follow-ups can be in person or by secure video. Your psychiatrist and therapist can coordinate, with your consent, so you don't have to repeat your story.

What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. A psychologist is trained in psychological assessment and talking therapy and does not prescribe. Many people see both, and if you're not sure who to start with, tell us what's going on and we'll guide you.
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist in Malaysia?
No. You can book directly with a psychiatrist at The Mind Faculty without a referral letter. If a GP or other professional has referred you, their notes are helpful to bring but not required.
Will I be prescribed medication at the first appointment?
Only if it's clearly the right step and you agree. Many first consultations end with a plan that starts with therapy, or with more assessment before anything is prescribed.
Do your psychiatrists see children and teenagers?
Yes. Several of our psychiatrists specialise in child and adolescent psychiatry and neurodevelopmental conditions, and they work alongside our child psychologists and special-education consultant.
Can I get a second opinion on my diagnosis or medication?
Yes. Second opinions and medication reviews are a normal part of what we do. Bring any previous reports or prescriptions and your psychiatrist will review them with you.
