Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting attention, impulse control and activity levels, present from childhood and often continuing into adult life. It is diagnosed through a structured clinical assessment and managed with a combination of medication, coaching and psychological strategies. ADHD care at The Mind Faculty
An ADHD assessment here is thorough, not a quick questionnaire. A consultant psychiatrist, and for children and teens often a clinical psychologist as well, will look at your history from childhood, how symptoms show up now at work, school or home, and whether something else could be contributing, such as anxiety, depression, sleep problems or a learning difficulty. For children, this may include input from parents and school.
If ADHD is diagnosed, treatment is built around you. Medication, prescribed and monitored by a psychiatrist, is often very effective for focus and impulsivity. Alongside it, or instead of it, ADHD coaching and executive-function work help with the practical side: planning, starting tasks, time and organisation. For children, we can also involve special-education support and parenting strategies.

How is ADHD diagnosed in adults?
Through a clinical assessment with a psychiatrist. It covers your current difficulties, your history going back to childhood, and how symptoms affect work, study and relationships, and it screens for other conditions that can look similar. Rating scales help, but the diagnosis rests on the clinical picture, not a single test.
Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD for the first time?
Yes. Many adults reach their thirties or forties before being assessed, often after years of compensating or after a child in the family is diagnosed. A late diagnosis is common and can bring real relief and practical change.
Do you assess children and teenagers for ADHD?
Yes. Our child and adolescent psychiatrists and clinical psychologists assess young people, and the process usually includes parents' observations and, where helpful, information from school. We can also support with learning difficulties that often sit alongside ADHD.
Is medication the only treatment for ADHD?
No. Medication is effective for many people, but ADHD coaching, executive-function strategies, therapy for the anxiety or low mood that often travel with ADHD, and, for children, school and parenting support all matter. Your plan can include any of these.
